Statement from U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today made the following statement.

“Senate Democrats have introduced and voted in support of legislation that would allow taxpayer-funded abortion, on demand, up to the moment of birth.  This is an extreme position and one that would put the United States in line with the policies of China and North Korea rather than the rest of the civilized world.

“It is imperative the Republican Party provide an alternative to their extreme position.

“Like most Americans, and the rest of the civilized world, I oppose late-term abortion.  I opposed it before Dobbs and I oppose it after.

“I hope the Republican Party can muster the courage to oppose late-term abortion like we have done in the past.  My legislation is a good place to start.  Like always, it includes exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother.

“The Republican Party must be the party which values, cherishes, and protects life.

“We should hold hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee on the negative impact of late-term abortions.  We should vote on legislation limiting late-term abortions.

“America does not need, and the unborn cannot afford, to have two major parties who support no restrictions on abortion up to the moment of birth.

“The unborn need a voice in Washington.  It is up to us to provide it.”
