Olson Nominated to be U.S. Attorney for Iowa’s Northern District

WASHINGTON – Iowan Leif A. Olson was nominated today by President Donald Trump to be the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) endorsed his nomination.

“I wholeheartedly support Mr. Olson’s nomination to the U.S. Attorney position in Iowa’s Northern District. Having 20 years of experience as a trial lawyer, public servant and appellate lawyer, Mr. Olson is highly qualified to serve the people of Iowa. As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I'll work to move his nomination forward swiftly,” Grassley said.

“I am proud to see President Trump nominate Leif Olson to serve as the U.S. Attorney for Iowa’s Northern District. He has honorably served our state and nation, and I look forward to working with Senator Grassley to move Mr. Olson’s nomination forward,” Ernst said.

Olson’s nomination has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee for vetting and consideration. The full Senate will vote on the nomination after receiving the Committee’s recommendation.

Background:

Olson is currently Iowa’s Chief Deputy Attorney General. Previously, he oversaw the Attorney General of Texas’ Special Litigation Division, served as a senior policy advisor for the U.S. Department of Labor and gained courtroom experience as a trial and appellate lawyer.
