Judiciary Committee Advances Three U.S. Attorney Nominations and Bipartisan Crime Legislation

WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee today advanced the following nominations:

  • Thomas Govan, to be United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, by a vote of 12-10;
  • Zachary Keller, to be United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, by a vote of 13-9; and
  • Ryan Raybould, to be United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, by a vote of 14-8.

The committee also voted to advance three bipartisan bills:

  • The GUARD Act, led by Sens. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (R-N.Y.), to protect seniors from financial frauds and scams.
  • The Drone Espionage Act, led by Sens. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) and Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), to protect military installations from unauthorized surveillance.
  • The Safe Cloud Storage Act, led by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), to assist law enforcement investigations into child sexual exploitation.
