Feinstein Statement on Shooting at Santa Fe High School

Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement in reaction to the shooting at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas:

“Yet another American community has been devastated by a barrage of gunfire. Yet another community has been forever changed by deadly violence in their school.

“Every time this happens, I feel sick to my stomach. Only in America are school shootings commonplace. Only in America are students running out of their schools with their hands raised a familiar sight. Only in America will we sit by and do nothing when an epidemic of gun violence is killing our children.

“This has to stop. We have to take meaningful steps to stop these shootings and reduce gun violence in our communities. We are a nation awash in guns. While we have just four percent of the world’s population, we have 42 percent of the world’s guns. We have to act. We have to strengthen our gun laws. Until we do, it’s just a matter of time before the next mass shooting and devastated community.”
