WASHINGTON – In case you missed it, local voices from across the nation are spotlighting Senate Democrats’ blockade of critical U.S. Attorney nominees.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) are blocking Senate confirmation of top law enforcement officials for 10 states, despite the nominees’ bipartisan support.
Senate Democrat leadership’s unprecedented and senseless holds are affecting communities throughout the country.

Read local coverage of Democrats’ unprecedented obstruction below:
Richmond Times-Dispatch | Virginia | Nomination of U.S. attorney for Eastern Virginia gets stuck in D.C. politics
“Durbin’s move means [Erik] Siebert won’t formally be nominated to his post by the U.S. Senate, which confirms U.S. attorneys by way of the Senate Judiciary Committee… There appears to be no controversy about Siebert’s actual qualifications for the job. An assistant attorney at the office since 2010, Siebert was one of two candidates recommended by Virginia’s Democratic Senate delegation, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine.”
The Minnesota Star Tribune | Minnesota | U.S. Attorney candidate Daniel Rosen’s confirmation held up in Senate
“Attorney Daniel Rosen had sailed through a relatively smooth process to become Minnesota’s next U.S. Attorney, but the final steps of his confirmation could be held up indefinitely in the U.S. Senate by recent opposition from top Democrats… Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have blocked Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Senate Judiciary Committee chair, in attempts to confirm Rosen and nine other U.S. attorney nominees unanimously in the Senate.”
Pine Journal | Minnesota | North Dakota, Minnesota U.S. attorney nominees caught up in Senate impasse
“Among the U.S. attorney nominees caught up in the blockage… are Nicholas Chase for the District of North Dakota and Daniel Rosen for the District of Minnesota. Both nominees received bipartisan support when they were named earlier this year and in committee, including Rosen getting an official ‘blue slip,’ or signal of support, from Minnesota's Democratic Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith.”
New Orleans Advocate | Louisiana | Political clash over Trump nominees snares Kurt Wall, set to be Baton Rouge-area prosecutor
“Kurt Wall’s confirmation to become prosecutor for the federal district based in Baton Rouge was put on hold as part of a broader partisan fight… no senator has raised any substantive objections to any of the 10 federal prosecutors involved in the Democratic block. ‘The Middle District of Louisiana deserves a Senate-confirmed U.S. attorney, and historic Democrat obstructionism doesn’t change that,’ said Senator John Kennedy.”
The Daily Nonpareil | Iowa | Grassley calls out Senate Democrat for blocking Iowa prosecutor’s confirmation
“While [David] Waterman was nominated by Trump, Biden nominated him for the same position in November 2024… ‘The actions of Senate Democrats are putting the American public in harm’s way. There’s simply no other way to say it,’ Grassley said.”
Pennsylvania Capital-Star | Pennsylvania | Top Pa. federal prosecutor’s nomination held up over Democratic senator’s objection
“President Donald Trump’s choice for U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is one of 10 federal prosecutor nominees whose confirmations were delayed Wednesday when a senior Democratic lawmaker objected… [David] Metcalf, who was previously an assistant U.S. attorney in Philadelphia, has overseen dozens of criminal and civil cases this year in his interim role.”
Idaho Statesman | Idaho | ‘Political games’: Senate Democrats delay Trump pick for Idaho US attorney
“Bart Davis, who also served in the appointed U.S. attorney role during Trump’s first term, has for five months awaited U.S. Senate confirmation and now faces another setback as Senate Democrats stalled all of Trump’s picks from filling the positions… 10 nominees – including Davis – have advanced out of the committee with their home-state senators’ approval to proceed to the full Senate vote. But Durbin this week put up yet another roadblock by objecting to a procedural step that would allow those picks to sail through the confirmation process.”
NBC Montana | Montana | Montana U.S. senators react after Senate Dems block voice vote on U.S. attorneys
“President Donald Trump appointed Kurt Alme to be Montana's U.S. Attorney in March, after a recommendation for reappointment from Montana U.S. Sen. Steve Daines. Alme served in that role during Trump's first term and had already passed favorably through committee before a voice vote on the nominees was blocked on the Senate floor Wednesday.”
The Daily Montanan | Montana | Top Montana federal attorney nomination held up by Democratic lawmakers
“President Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. Attorney for Montana is one of 10 federal prosecutor nominees whose confirmations were delayed... In a TV appearance [Sen. Steve] Daines said blocking the nominees was an ‘unprecedented move’… In a post on social media Tuesday, Montana Sen. Tim Sheehy said the ‘historic obstruction is making Montanans less safe’.”
KOTA-TV | South Dakota | Thune seeks rules change to expedite Trump nominees as key South Dakota nominee remains unconfirmed
“As for a key nominee in South Dakota, the President’s pick for US Attorney, Ronald A. Parsons, Jr, is currently awaiting approval by the full Senate despite being cleared out of the Judiciary Committee on a voice vote. Parsons was one of 10 US Attorneys who Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley requested unanimous support for.”
KFYR-TV | North Dakota | US Attorney nominees being blocked in Senate
“Several U.S. Attorney nominees, including some from Montana and North Dakota, are being blocked from a confirmation vote in the Senate... Montana Senator Steve Daines called this an unprecedented move that they can’t let stand… Senators Kevin Cramer and John Hoeven in May recommended Chase for North Dakota’s U.S. Attorney position. [Chase] is currently a District Court Judge for the East-Central District and served in the U.S. Attorney’s office for 20 years… ‘President Trump deserves to have his nominees considered by the full Senate, and this across-the-board obstruction of routine nominations is unacceptable,’ said Hoeven.”
