Feinstein Statement on Indictment of Russians for Campaign Interference

Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on today’s indictment related to Russia’s election interference:

“Today’s indictment details an extensive campaign by the Russia-linked Internet Research Agency to influence the 2016 election that began in 2014. The indictment names 13 Russians, alleges that millions of dollar were spent and says IRA’s operations involved more than 80 Russians and targeted more than 100 Americans to assist in the effort.

“This indictment reveals for the first time that both Russians and Americans were allegedly involved in this sophisticated attack on our democracy.

“Unfortunately, President Trump’s lack of leadership in this area is becoming an issue of national security. He needs to stop denying that Russia interfered in the 2016 election and mobilize a robust federal response.

“Special Counsel Mueller once again demonstrated that his investigation is serious, fact-based and producing tangible results. While we still don’t know the full extent of what Russia did or with whom they worked, one thing is clear: The Mueller investigation must be allowed to continue without interference or delay.

“All Americans should want to get to the bottom of this and make sure it never happens again.”
