Feinstein on 65th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education

Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement marking the 65th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education:

“In 1954, a unanimous Supreme Court decision once and for all put an end to racial segregation in our nation’s schools. It remains one of the most important and consequential decisions the Court has ever reached.

“Brown v. Board of Education made clear what was already self-evident in the Fourteenth Amendment, that ‘separate-but-equal’ is inherently unequal.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to the plaintiffs, lawyers and others responsible for bringing the case before the Court.

“Much work remains to be done to fulfill the promise of the Brown decision. But the progress we’ve made in the last 65 years on the march toward equality is encouraging and I am determined to continue that effort.”
