Feinstein: Congress Must Pass Bill to Protect Young Athletes

WashingtonSenator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement urging the House of Representatives to pass legislation protecting athletes from abuse:

“More than 80 victims and their family members this week testified about the effect Larry Nassar’s abuse had on their lives. Their devastating stories make clear that USA Gymnastics and an institutional culture of apathy allowed these horrors to happen. I continue to be appalled that more than 140 victims were abused yet no one in a position of power did anything to stop it.

“Our bill to protect young athletes by imposing strict reporting and training requirements on USA Gymnastics, other governing bodies and amateur sports organizations has the support of 270 groups and athletes. It passed the Senate unanimously. The House must pass our bill as soon as possible to prevent the abuse of more athletes.”
