Durbin Statement on Final Report by Special Counsel Durham

WASHINGTON  U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today released the following statement regarding the final report released by Special Counsel John Durham, who was appointed by then-Attorney General Bill Barr in 2019 to investigate the opening of Crossfire Hurricane:

“Special Counsel Durham’s report revealed little new substantive information about the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation that we did not already learn from Inspector General Horowitz’s 2019 report.  Unlike Inspector General Horowitz’s report, however, the Durham Report offers no meaningful recommendations on how the FBI can improve the application of its considerable surveillance authorities in its investigations.

“Donald Trump once predicted that Special Counsel Durham would uncover the ‘crime of the century.’   Instead, we were given a report that cost taxpayers more than $6.5 million over four years, just for it to reiterate the conclusions of the IG’s 2019 report.”
