Judiciary Committee Advances Two Bipartisan Bills, Four Federal Judges, U.S. Marshal and U.S. Attorney

WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee today advanced the following nominations:

  • Sheria Akins Clarke, to be United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina, by a vote of 15-7.
  • Kathleen S. Lane, to be United States District Judge for the District of Montana, by a vote of 12-10.
  • Evan Rikhye, to be Judge for the District Court of the Virgin Islands, by a vote of 12-10.
  • Kara Marie Westercamp, to be a Judge of the United States Court of International Trade, by a vote of 12-10.
  • Kenneth Sorenson, to be United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii, by a vote of 19-3.
  • Johnson Teehee II, to be United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, by a vote of 13-9.

The Judiciary Committee additionally advanced the following bipartisan bills:

  • The Federal Carjacking Enforcement Act, led by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), to improve the law to help federal prosecutors crack down on carjacking, by a vote of 18-4.
  • The GUARD Act, led by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), to protect children from AI chatbots, by a vote of 22-0.
