Patti B. Saris
was confirmed on December 22, 2010, to be a Member and the Chair of the United States Sentencing Commission for a term expiring on October 31, 2015.  A hearing to consider the nomination was held on November 17, 2010. An archived webcast is available.  A transcript of the hearing is available through the Government Printing Office.  The Judiciary Committee reported the nomination to the full Senate for consideration on December 8, 2010.

William B. Carr, Jr., was confirmed on November 20, 2008, to be a Member and Vice Chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission for a term expiring on October 31, 2011.  A hearing to consider the nomination was held on July 23, 2008.  An archived webcast is available.  The Judiciary Committee reported the nomination to the full Senate on September 11, 2008.

Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed on February 11, 2010, to be a Member and Vice Chair of the United States Sentencing Commission.  A hearing to consider the nomination was held on October 7, 2009.  An archived webcast is available.  A transcript of the hearing is available through the Government Printing Office.  The Judiciary Committee ordered the nomination reported to the Senate for consideration on November 5, 2009.


Ricardo H. Hinojosa was confirmed on November 20, 2008, to be a Member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission for a term expiring October 31, 2013.  The nomination was discharged from the Judiciary Committee on November 20, 2008.

Beryl A. Howell
was confirmed on February 28, 2007, to be a Member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission for a term expiring on October 31, 2011.  The Judiciary Committee reported the nomination to the full Senate on February 15, 2007.

Dabney L. Friedrich
was confirmed to be a Member of the United States Sentencing Commission on December 22, 2010. The Judiciary Committee ordered the nomination reported to the Senate for consideration on December 8, 2010.

Charles R. Breyer was nominated on April 25, 2012, to be a Member of the United States Sentencing Commission for a term expiring October 31, 2015. The Judiciary Committee ordered the nomination reported to the Senate for consideration on July 19, 2012.

Charles R. Breyer was nominated again on April 15, 2013, to be a Member of the United States Sentencing Commission for a term expiring October 31, 2015.


Rachel Elise Barkow was nominated on April 15, 2013, to be a Member of the United States Sentencing Commission for a term expiring October 31, 2017.

William H. Pryor, Jr. was nominated on April 15, 2013, to be a Member of the United States Sentencing Commission for a term expiring October 31, 2017.

Did You Know?  Harlan Fiske Stone was the first Supreme Court nominee to testify at a Supreme Court confirmation hearing in 1925.  John Harlan was only the fourth nominee to testify (1955).  Harlan's 1955 confirmation marked the beginning of the current practice of each Supreme Court nominee testifying before the Judiciary Committee.
