Did You Know?  Presidents have used "recess appointments" to name 12 Supreme Court justices in U.S. history.  Associate Justice Potter Stewart was the last recess appointment to the Supreme Court.  President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed Stewart on January 17, 1959, and in 1960, the Senate adopted a resolution expressing its objection to such appointments in the future.
