Statement of

The Honorable Patrick Leahy

United States Senator
Vermont
July 19, 2007

Statement of Senator Patrick Leahy
Chairman, Committee on the Judiciary
On the Patent Reform Act of 2007, S. 1145
Executive Business Meeting
July 19, 2007

Today, we have a Substitute Amendment that incorporates all the changes we have agreed to make during the course of this extended markup, as well as a third Managers' Amendment, as we continue to accommodate concerns. I understand that Senators may have further amendments to offer. I remind Senators, however, that we have been working on this matter for more than four weeks. Our agenda includes a number of other important matters that we will consider when we complete our work on the Patent Reform Act. I would like to commend the House Judiciary Committee for making progress on a bipartisan patent reform bill similar to the one we are considering today. The House Committee reported out its bill yesterday with broad support. I hope this Committee can make similar progress today. So let us move through the amendments and on to the rest of our agenda.
